Peter, Frances and family with their liferaft on board the Norweigen tanker that plucked them out of the Atlantic ocean 13 days after their traditional wooden yacht (Misty Blue) had sunk.

In 1986 after loosing their boat in mid atlantic (see Mail on Sunday 17th February 1985) Peter and Frances Tate commisioned Laurent Giles Ltd., to design them a new yacht. They chose Laurent Giles Ltd., above others for the good name, and the fact that both directors were members of R.I.N.A. and Y.B.D.S.A. The new yacht was to be steel as safety was a major factor, she would also be able to travel in shoal waters for river exploration and shallow non commercial harbours.
